The Organisation of American States (OAS) is expected to provide some assistance to Haiti next year, ahead of local and presidential elections.

Assistant Secretary General, Ambassador Albert Ramdin, says President Rene Preval has requested technical assistance to the electoral council, in the areas of training and public outreach.

Legislators in the politically unstable country chose a new prime minister more than a week ago, as tension remained high over the presence of United Nations peacekeepers.
