Grenada government to scrutinize libel laws

Grenadian Prime Minister Tillman Thomas says his administration will be scrutinising the country’s libel laws as part of an overall strategy that includes making information more widely available.



He told regional journalists that there is growing discussion on whether legislation relating to the media, such as libel and slander laws, should be revised and updated or even completely struck off the law books.



Thomas said his government is considering improving the dissemination of information to the public.



He said its also establishing a ministry of information by 2010 that will strengthen the policy environment in which the various channels of information exist.



The Prime Minister further said a committee will be established to make recommendations to the government.
