National Sportsman and Sportswoman awards set for January 14

The 49th Annual National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year Awards Ceremony, to be staged by the RJR Sports Foundation for the sixth consecutive year, will take place on January 14, 2009.



The selection committee has nominated five men and nine women for the awards.



The nominees for the men’s award are headed by the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt.



The other nominees are West Indies cricketers Chris Gayle, Brendan Nash, Jerome Taylor and former 100-metre world record holder, Asafa Powell.



Among the nominees for the women are Olympic and World Championship 100-metre gold medallist, Shelly-Ann Fraser, World Championship 100-metre hurdles gold medallist, Brigitte Foster-Hylton, Olympic and World Championship 400-metre gold medallist, Melaine Walker and Olympic and World Championship 400-metre silver medallist, Shericka Williams.



The other nominees are Stafanie Taylor, Kerron Stewart, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Delloreen Ennis-London and Romelda Aikens.
