Guyana names squad for first-class season
The selection panel named the touring squad yesterday for Guyana’s first game against Trinidad and Tobago, from January 12-15 in St Kitts, in next year’s shortened West Indies Cricket Board first-class season.
The Essequibo fast bowler Trevor Benn is the only uncapped player in Guyana’s squad for the start of the 2010 West Indies first-class season next month.
Benn is in line to becoming the first Police player to gain selection on a Guyana first-class team, since pace Mark Burnette played a solitary match against the Leeward Islands in February 1994.
Ramnaresh Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Dowlin and Travis Dowlin, all currently in Australia with the West Indies team, have been included in the squad.
Sarwan has been recommended to Captain the side with out-of-form left-hander Sewnarine Chattergoon as his deputy.
