Chelsea opened up a five-point gap at the top of the English Premier League table as they came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 earlier this afternoon.

The visitors stunned Chelsea by taking the lead after four minutes when Zoltan Gera hooked in from 12 yards.

Fulham then defended comfortably as Chelsea struggled to make an impact, but Didier Drogba finally got the equalizer when he headed in at the far post in the 73rd minute.

An unfortunate own goal in the 75th by Chris Smalling handed Chelsea a victory that had looked unlikely for long spells.

Chelsea now moved to 45 points, while Manchester United, who will play Wigan on Wednesday, are on 40 points.

Arsenal, who will travel to Portsmouth on Wednesday, are next with 38 points.

At White Hart Lane, Tottenham blanked West Ham 2-0 to move to fourth place with 37 points, 1 behind Arsenal but 2 ahead of Aston Villa, who host Liverpool tomorrow.

Birmingham climbed above Liverpool into seventh after Cameron Jermoe clinched a 1-0 win at Stoke.

At Goodison Park, Everton ended a seven-match winless streak in the league by beating 10-man Burnley 2-0.
