Canada’s coach welcomes friendly against Jamaica
Canada’s Coach, Stephen Hart has welcomed next month’s friendly football international against Jamaica’s Reggae Boys, describing the away fixture as a good test for his side.
After a two-week camp in Florida, Canada will tackle Jamaica at the National Stadium in Kingston on January 31. It will be the first international for Hart since being confirmed earlier this month as Canada’s Head Coach.
The Canadian squad will meet in Fort Lauderdale in mid-January to prepare for the month-end match and Hart will draw mostly on players, whose teams are on a winter break, including those in North America and northern Europe.
Canada beat Jamaica 1-0 in their most recent meeting at the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the USA, but the Reggae Boys had beaten them 3-0 in their last trip to Kingston for a World Cup qualifier in November 2008.
Both teams consider the friendly early preparation for CONCACAF qualifying to the 2014 World Cup Finals in Brazil.
The Jamaicans are currently ranked 81st on FIFA’s world list and Canada are 56th.
