The Director of National Intelligence in the US, Dennis Blair said he plans to boost efforts to prevent attacks on airlines.
His comment follows sharp criticism from President Barack Obama over a failed airliner bomb plot.
The alleged bomber, 23-year-old Nigerian, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is accused of trying to bring down an airliner over Detroit.
Mr. Obama had earlier described the failure to anticipate the attack as a foul up.
He also said US intelligence officials had known that Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula had been planning an attack against America.
