England survive to draw third Test
England turned in a good performance to draw the third Test with hosts South Africa at Newlands on today’s final day.
The draw means that England will go to the final match 1-0 ahead and cannot lose the series.
Starting the final day on 132 for 3 and still needing an unlikely 334 more runs to win the match, England finished on 296 for 9.
The last-wicket pair of Graeme Swann and Graham Onions dramatically survived the last 17 balls.
Ian Bell top scored for England in the second innings with 75. Alastair Cook 55, Andrew Strauss 45, Jonathan Trott 42 and Paul Collingwood 40 supported him.
Paul Harris was the most successful bowler for South Africa with 3 for 85, while J.P. Duminy and Dale Steyn chipped in with 2 wickets apiece.
Final scores in the match are South Africa 291 and 447 for 7, England 273 and 297 for 9.
Over at the Mirpur She-e-Bangla National Stadium in Bangladesh, India beat Bangladesh by 6 wickets in the third one-day international of the tri-series.
India chasing a victory target of 297 reached the target in 47.3 overs with 6 wickets to spare.
The victory represents India’s first of the series, while Sri Lanka, the other team in the series, boost a 2-0 record.
