Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards tonight

Double sprint world record holder, Usain Bolt is set to walk away with the 2009 RJR Sports Foundation Sportsman of the Year title tonight at the 49th annual National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year awards ceremony.



The function will take place at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, beginning at 7:00 p.m.



The other contenders for the Sportsman of the Year title are sprinter Asafa Powell and cricketers Jerome Taylor, Chris Gayle and Brendan Nash.



For the Sportswoman of the Year title, it is a three-way battle among Shelly-Ann Fraser, Melaine Walker and Brigitte Foster-Hylton, all gold medal winners at the Berlin World Championships.



Four other track and field athletes were also nominated for the women’s title. They are Shericka Williams, Delloreen Ennis-London, Kerron Stewart and Veronica Campbell-Brown.



The other nominees are netballer Romelda Aiken and West Indies women’s cricketer, Stafanie Taylor.



Other presentations that will be made tonight include the People’s Choice Awards, the Chairman’s Award, certificates of merit, category awards and team awards.
