Reggae Girls to return home without a point
Jamaica will return from Guatemala today without a point after going down 1-0 to Trinidad and Tobago in a match for Caribbean pride at the CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship yesterday.
Candace Seaton handed the Trinidadians the win when she netted in the 65th minute.
Both teams entered the game already eliminated from semi-final contention with two losses each in Group ‘B’ play.
The Jamaicans lost 6-0 to the USA and 2-0 to Mexico ahead of their final game, while T&T lost 2-1 to Mexico and 4-0 to the USA.
The CONCACAF championship will qualify three teams for the Under-20 Women\'s World Cup in Germany from July 31-August 1.
The USA and Canada earned the first two World Cup spots after winning their group.
The USA completed a perfect first round with a 2-1 victory over Mexico yesterday, to finish atop Group ‘B’ and earned a semi-final match against Group ‘A’ runner up Costa Rica on Thursday.
Mexico finished with 6 points and will play Group ‘A’ winner Canada in the other semi-final.
The third place team will also qualify for the FIFA Under-20 Women\'s World Cup.
