Guyana, T&T ticked off victories
Guyana secured their first win of the 2010 West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) first class championship by defeating Leeward Islands by five wickets today in their sixth round match at the National Cricket Centre in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Guyanese, chasing a modest victory target of 98, reached 99 for five with first innings centurion Shivnarine Chanderpaul unbeaten on 32.
Guyana had resumed today’s final day on 49 for three.
Bowling for Leeward Islands, Steve Liburd ended with two for 13 and Brent Defreitas had two for 28.
Final scores are Leeward Islands 192 and 192, Guyana 287 and 99 for five.
Over at Queen’s Park Oval, hosts Trinidad and Tobago completed a 155-run victory over Windward Islands about 15 minutes before the lunch interval.
Windward Islands, set 373 for victory were bowled out for 217 after resuming this morning’s final day on 129 for five in their second innings.
Final scores are T&T 263 and 297 for six declared, Windward Islands 188 and 217 for five.
The other match of the round finished inside three days yesterday when reigning champions Jamaica suffered their first defeat going down by 10 wickets to Barbados.
As a result of the victory, Barbados have now moved ahead of Jamaica to top the standings with one round of competition remaining.
The Bajans have completed their six-match programme with 57 points while Jamaica remain on 48 points from five matches.
