Austria wins team ski jump gold at Olympics
With the best ski jumper in the world on the sidelines, the Austrian team soared to the Olympic gold medal today at the Vancouver Games.
The Austrian team defended their title from the 2006 Turin Games by earning 1,107.9 points to easily beat second-place Germany. Norway took bronze.
There were only three other medals to be awarded today, the 11th day of the Olympics.
Besides the team ski jump, there were also finals scheduled for the men\'s and women\'s team sprints in cross-country skiing, and in figure skating\'s ice dance.
A day after the United States beat Canada in men\'s hockey, forcing the hosts to play an extra game to reach the medal round and the women\'s hockey tournament resumed.
The Americans were playing Sweden in the semifinals, while Canada were to face Finland later in the day in another semifinal game.
Meanwhile, the USA are leading the table with a medal haul of 24 including seven gold, seven silver and 10 bronze. Germany are second with a medal haul of 19 including six gold, eight silver and five bronze.
