The Lands Hospital in Suriname says its considering legal action to end the industrial dispute that has virtually crippled the country’s public health sector.

Spokesman for the hospital Lorenzo Irion says while not all medical personnel are on strike, the management is considering legal steps against the union to bring back some normality to operations.

Hospital workers including those at the Academic Hospital Paramaribo, Suriname’s largest public hospital, have been on strike since last week over wages.

The General Union of Nurses in Suriname and workers employed by the Psychiatric Hospital in Suriname have warned that they will join the industrial action by tomorrow if no agreement is reached.
