Authorities in Brazil say they’re awaiting approval from the Haitian government to construct a $150 million hydroelectric power plant, that will serve the capital Port-au-Prince.
The project is the country\'s biggest move to take the lead role in rebuilding efforts in Haiti, in the wake of widespread devastation caused by the January 12 earthquake.
Brazil has also been calling for changes to the status of the United Nations stabilisation mission to Port-au-Prince, from peacekeeping to reconstruction.
However, the UN representative in Haiti, Edmond Mulet has rejected that proposal.
