Calabar sets first meet record at Champs

Calabar High’s Chad Wright has accounted for the first meet record of the 2010 ISSA/Grace Boys and Girls’ Championships when he smashed the Boys’ Class One Discus mark on today’s opening day of the four-day meet.



Wright threw 52.16 metres in the preliminary round to smash the previous record of 51.43 metres, which was set by schoolmate Travis Smikle last year.



Canigga Raynor of defending champions Kingston College advanced with the next best throw of 42.85metres, ahead of World Youth bronze medallist Travis Smikle with 42.74 metres.



Meanwhile, Rojay DaCres of Calabar has taken the early lead in the boys’ heptathlon following the 110-metre hurdles. He is ahead with 821 points, followed by Orain McLeggon of St Jago High with 804 points, Shaquille Nelson of Wolmers with 746 and Kingston College’s Ryan Walcott with 734.



There will be two girls’ finals and a boys’ final on today’s opening day.



The girls’ finals are the Triple Jump Open scheduled for 1.30 p.m. and the Class One Discus set for 3.25p.m.



The lone boys’ final is the Class One Long Jump set for 5.20 p.m.
