Rights group wants Haitian women protected

Human rights group Amnesty International is calling for the Haitian authorities to take immediate measures to curb sexual violence and protect women living in camps in the quake-devastated country.

Amnesty International says thousands of women living in those temporary shelters are threatened by sexual violence, and have inadequate protection.

Amnesty says sexual violence is widely present in the camps where some of Haiti\'s most vulnerable live.

It says insecurity, overcrowding and inadequate sanitary facilities are placing women and girls at great risk of abuse because they’re exposed and left without protection.

The organisation\'s representatives have just concluded a three-week visit to Haiti.
