Jamaica looks to increase medal tally at CARIFTA swimming Champs

Jamaica will be looking to improve their medal tally on today’s final day of the four-day CARIFTA Swimming Championships at the National Stadium Pool.



Eighteen Jamaicans are through to finals after this morning’s final set of preliminaries. The first final is scheduled to start at 6 o’clock this evening.



The Jamaicans are seventh in the medal table with a medal haul of 15 including five gold, three silver and seven bronze.



Reigning champions Trinidad and Tobago lead with a medal haul of 72, including 35 gold, 24 silver and 13 bronze. Barbados hold down second place with 35 medals --- 14 gold, 16 silver and five bronze.



Jamaica improved their medal tally last night by three medals including a gold.



Kevaughn Campbell won the country’s fifth gold with victory in the Boys 11 to 12 50-metre breast stroke. He clocked 34.54 to win ahead of Dionisio Carey of The Bahamas, who clocked 34.90. Che Sheldon Charlemagne of Guadeloupe took bronze in a time of 35.99.



The two other medals last night were bronze. Those medals were won by Leanne McMaster, in the Girls 11 to 12, 50-metre breast stroke and the Girls 15 to 17 800-metre Freestyle Relay team.
