Udecott board sacked
A damning report on alleged mismanagement and corruption in Trinidad and Tobago’s Urban Development Company (Udecott) has led the government to sack its board.
The allegations surrounding Udecott have dominated politics in the country over the past year.
A commission of enquiry found serious malpractices with regard to the award of billions of TT dollars in contracts to foreign and local firms for the construction of government buildings and the Brian Lara Stadium.
The issue is also believed to be one of the reasons behind the Prime Minister’s stated intention to call early elections.
In addition to firing the board, the Attorney General has handed over the report of the commission of enquiry to the Director of Public Prosecutions and the police.
Chairman of the Udecott board, Canadian - born Calder Hart, resigned the job and left the country over a month ago.
