TT opposition taunts PM over election
Parliament in Trinidad and Tobago was dissolved at midnight Thursday ahead of general elections, which must be held within 90 days.
Prime Minister Patrick Manning made the announcement of the dissolution of Parliament ahead of today’s scheduled debate of a no-confidence motion against his administration.
The Opposition Leader, Kamla Persad Bissessar has accused Mr Manning of running away from the debate.
She said the early dissolution of parliament was an admission of the Government\'s colossal failure, as Mr Manning did not have to call an election before early 2013.
Mrs Persad Bissessar is claiming that the Prime Minister was fearful of revelations that would have emerged during the debate on the motion of no confidence.
Mr Manning had said that in calling an early vote, he was just responding to the wish of the opposition as contained in the motion.
His administration is under pressure over allegations of corruption and extravagant spending.
