IPL semi-finals moved to Mumbai

The Indian Premier League(IPL) semifinals have been moved from Bangalore to Mumbai amid security fears.

Two devices exploded outside Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium before Saturday’s IPL game between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Mumbai Indian.

The match went ahead but a third device was defused yesterday.

IPL boss Lalit Modi says the environment in Bangalore stops organisers from continuing with original plans although the incidents were assessed by local police and the IPL’s security agency as being of a minor nature.

All three devices were hidden in the stadium’s perimeter wall and the two explosions are believed to have injured 15 people.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) says it was too early to comment on the attack or its ramifications of the 2011 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

There was no immediate reaction from the Indian organizers of 2010 Commonwealth Games, which are set to be held in Delhi from October 3 to 14.

Mumbai, Deccan Chargers and Chennai Super Kings have already booked their semi-final spots in the IPL.
