Holmwood Technical win girls’ 4x800 relay
Holmwood Technical of Jamaica have won two Championship of America High School Girls’ relays on today’s second day of the 116th edition of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The Christiana-based school crossed the finish line in eight minutes, 42.49 seconds to win the 4 by 800-metre Championship of America relay.
Holmwood Technical won ahead of Edwin Allen, also from Jamaica, eight minutes, 47.73 and Long Beach Poly from California.
Holmwood Technical returned later in the day to lead a Jamaica sweep of the medals in the High School Girls’ 4 by 100-metre Championship of America relay.
The quartet clocked 45.41 seconds for the victory, ahead of Herbert Morrison 45.81 and Edwin Allen 45.87.
Earlier, Candicea Bernard of St Hugh’s took the High School Girls’ Discus Throw Championship with a throw of 48.05 metres to lead a Jamaica one-two finish.
Vanessa Levy of Vere Technical was second with a throw of 44.47.
Meanwhile, Wolmer’s with 40.47 seconds lead the Jamaican boys’ school qualifiers into tomorrow’s 4 by 100-metre Championship of American final.
