Virgin Atlantic wants compensation

Virgin Atlantic boss Richard Branson wants compensation for the $77 million he says the airline lost in over six days because of a blanket ban on European flights due to volcanic ash from Iceland.

He has called for the British government to compensate the airline industry for the losses they suffered because of the decision to ban the flights.

Sir Richard has also blamed the losses on the UK government\'s decision to ground the planes because of the possible risk the ash from a volcano in Iceland posed.

He says engineers and other experts had said there was no danger to flying and that the risk would have been flying close to Iceland through the ash.
