Stadium receives go ahead to stage Invitational meet
The National Stadium has received the green light to stage the eighth Jamaica International Invitational track meet tomorrow.
The go ahead was given by the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) after an inspection of the facility yesterday.
Last week, Major of Kingston Desmond McKenzie said he would close the stadium if emergency works to address a number of problems at the facility were not carried out.
Mayor McKenzie issued the threat after a two-hour inspection by KSAC along with members of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPEM), the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Public Health Authority of the Ministry of Health.
Independence Park Limited, which manages the National Stadium, was given five days to address the problems.
Among the emergency works, which were carried out, was repairs to the leaking cantilever, which covers the grandstand of the Stadium.
Lights were also installed in the Marathon Tunnell and there were also repairs to steps and seats.
