US investigators have arrested a suspect in connection with an attempted car bomb attack in New York City.

Reports are that a US citizen of Pakistani origin who recently bought the car used in the failed bombing was arrested.

The vehicle was left in New York\'s Times Square on Saturday with a bomb made from fertiliser, fireworks, petrol and propane gas tanks.

The bomb was discovered and dismantled before it could explode.

The suspect, who has not been named, is reportedly being held in New York.

The Associated Press says he was identified late yesterday at New York\'s John F Kennedy international airport.
