Dominica MPs lose seats
The Speaker of the Dominica House of Assembly, Alix Boyd Knights, has announced that the parliamentary seats of two elected opposition representatives have been made vacant.
The MPs for the Marigot and Salisbury constituencies have not been to parliament since the December 18 general elections.
House of Assembly regulations stipulate that parliamentarians who miss three consecutive sessions of the Assembly lose their seats.
All three successful United Workers Party MPs have been boycotting the parliament.
However, Roseau Central’s Norris Prevost broke ranks and put in an appearance at the most recent session of the House last Thursday.
He retains his seat.
The Speaker’s decision is likely to lead to by-elections for the Marigot and Salisbury seats.
