England beat Pakistan in opening Super Eights game
England recorded a six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the opening game of the Super Eights phase of the World 20/20 Championship at Kensington Oval in Barbados today.
Set a 148 for victory, England reached the target with three deliveries remaining.
Man-of-the-Match Kevin Pietersen steered England home with an undefeated 70 from 52 deliveries.
Openers Michael Lumb and Craig Kieswetter scored 25 runs each.
Saeed Ajmal was the most successful bowler for Pakistan with two for 15 off 3.3 overs.
Earlier, Pakistan sent in to bat scored 147 for nine off their allotted 20 overs against the bowling of Michael Yardy two for 19, Stuart Broad two for 25 and Ryan Sidebottom two for 28.
Salman Butt 34 and Umar Akmal 30 got most runs for Pakistan.
New Zealand and South Africa will face off in the second game, starting at 1.30 p.m. local time.
West Indies will open their Super Eights campaign tomorrow against Sri Lanka.
