Hosts West Indies, needing to beat Australia by 24 runs to snatch the last semi-final spot in the 20/20 World Cup, were struggling on 86 for nine after 15 overs in the final Super Eight match at the Beausejour Stadium in St Lucia.

Meanwhile, in the opening match at the venue, Chamara Kapugedera hit a six off the last ball to sweep Sri Lanka to victory and the brink of the semi finals as India bowed out.
After two Super Eight defeats, India had to win by 20 runs or more to have any chance of reaching the last four.

Sri Lanka passed 143 to eliminate India and then, needing three off the final delivery and Kapugedera 37 not out snatched a dramatic five-wicket win.
