The government of St Lucia says it expects significant reductions in the cost of telecommunications services, as a result of the granting of operating licences to a number of new companies.

The island\'s Public Utilities Minister, Guy Joseph, says nearly a dozen licences have been issued in a bid to further liberalise the telecommunications sector.

He says it will take some time for the new companies to acquire equipment and begin operations.

However, the Public Utilities Minister says when they do, there will be some major changes in the telecommunications landscape.
