Tyson Gay on fire at Manchester
American Tyson Gay clocked a world’s best of 19.41seconds on the streets of Manchester to win the 200-metre straight at the Great Manchester Run yesterday.
His time bettered the 19.50 ran by fellow American Tommie Smith in 1968.
Gay ran 9.88 seconds for the first 100 metres, 14.41 for the 150 before finishing with his final time.
Allyson Felix of the USA recovered well from her trip from Doha where she won the 400 metres on Friday to win the women’s 200 metres with a time of 22.56.
Elsewhere, Shawn Crawford won the men’s 150-metre race in 15.30 almost a second slower than the 14.35 seconds world record Usain Bolt set in the pouring rain last year.
Haile Gebrselassie won the men’s Great Manchester Run 10K but had to work a little harder than normal to defend his title.
The Ethiopian clocked 28 minutes and two seconds to take victory over Spain’s Avad Lamdassem, who clocked 28 minutes and nine seconds.
