Rivoli United relegated from Premier League
Sporting Central Academy have avoided the drop and as a result Rivoli United joined August Town as the teams relegated from the Digicel Premier League after yesterday’s final day of the 2009 to 2010 season.
Playing at home, Sporting Central Academy, who looked the likely team to be relegated, came from behind to beat 10-man Rivoli United 2-1 at Brancourt in Clarendon.
As a result of the victory, Sporting Central Academy ended the season in ninth place with 43 points, just one ahead of Rivoli United, who entered the final day needing a draw to avoid the drop.
Devon Hodges had given Rivoli United a 29th minute lead, but Sporting Central Academy came back through goals from Jamali Powell in the 60th minute and Je-Vaughn Watson in the 81st minute.
Hodges ended the season as joint leading goalscorer with Kevin Lamey of Waterhouse, who scored a five timer to lead third place Waterhouse to a 6-1 hammering of fourth place St Georges at Drewsland Stadium.
Over at Edward Seaga Stadium, new champions Harbour View defeated outgoing champions Tivoli Gardens 2-1.
Tivoli finished the season in second place on 66 points, 11 behind Harbour View but coach Lenworth Hyde was dismissed a day before the season ended.
In other games, fifth place Boys’ Town were held to a 1-1 draw by sixth place Village United at Collie Smith Drive, seventh place Portmore and 10th place Humble Lions played to a goalless draw at Ferdie Neita Park, while eighth place Arnett Gardens hammered last place August Town 4-0 at the UWI field.
