No Lara for Surrey as talks come to nothing

Retired West Indies batting superstar Brian Lara will not turn out for English county Surrey this season.

The south London club had been trying to lure the 41-year-old former West Indies captain to play in the Friends Provident 20/20 campaign and carry out an ambassadorial community role.

However, Surrey’s managing director of cricket Gus MacKay was quoted in the Daily Telegraph as saying talks with Lara had fallen through and the county would no longer be pursuing his service.

Only last weekend, Lara said he was keeping his options open about any possible return to competitive cricket.

He said he had made no concrete plans but had been practicing and playing cricket again to remain fit.
