Jamaican Usain Bolt to run 300 metres today
Triple world record holder Usain Bolt and former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell are among 16 Jamaicans down to compete at the 49th Ostrava Golden Spike Meeting in the Czech Republic today.
Bolt will run in the rarely contested 300 metres in hopes of setting the world record in the distance now held by American Michael Johnson in 30.85 seconds.
Bolt is set to earn US$300,000 for his appearance, plus an additional US$30,000 for a record.
.Jamaica’s Jermaine Gonzales is also down to run in the men’s 300 metres.
Powell will contest Heat Two of the men’s 100-metres along with his Jamaican teammates Dexter Lee and Mario Forsythe. Heat One features Jamaicans Lerone Clarke and Nesta Cater.
Three Jamaicans are down to contest the women’s 100 metres. They’re Olympic and World Championship gold medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser, Sheri-Ann Brooks and Schillonie Calvert.
Dolloreen Ennis-London is the only Jamaican in the women’s 100-metre hurdles, while Rosemarie Whyte, Shericka Williams and Kaliese Spencer are down to contest the women’s 400 metres.
Joseph Robertson and Isa Phillips are down to run in the men’s 400-metre hurdles.
