Jamaican sprinters settle for runners-up spots

Jamaicans Dwight Thomas and Mario Forsythe had to settle for second place at the 20th Fanny Blankers-Koen Games yesterday at the FBK Stadium in Holland.



Forsythe clocked 10.25 seconds behind winner Churandy Martina of the Netherlands Antilles in the men’s 100-metre dash.



Martina won in 10.15 seconds.



Thomas was edged in the men’s 110 hurdles as Andy Turner of Great Britain stopped the clock at 13.34.



Thomas ran 13.49 and his country man Maurice Wignall was fourth in 13.69, while Olympic champion Dayron Robles of Cuba fell over the last hurdle.



The women’s 100 metres was won by American Carmelita Jeter in 11.16, while Jamaican Schillonie Calvert finished sixth in 11.60.



Tricia Smith of Jamaica was sixth in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 13.69 metres. Cuban Yargeris Savigne won with a leap of 14.36 metres.
