Gayle blasts bowlers
West Indies captain Chris Gayle blasted his bowlers after they allowed South Africa to chase down 304 to win the fourth one-day international at Windsor Park in Dominica yesterday.
The hosts looked set to win their first game in the series when Shivnarine Chanderpaul top-scored with 66 in a balanced Windies innings of 303.
Dale Richards 53, Dwayne Bravo 46 and Darren Bravo 45 not out supported well.
However, a brilliant 129 from Hashim Amla helped the Proteas towards victory, South Africa emerging victorious by seven wickets with AB de Villiers scoring the winning run off the final ball of the match.
Gayle was the only Windies bowler to get through his full allocation of 10 overs and afterwards he said he was very disappointed with a few bowlers.
“It doesn’t make sense having some of the bowlers in the team because they’re unable to do what is required,” said captain Chris Gayle.
Spinner Sulieman Benn bowled just four overs, conceding 22 runs. However, Gayle says Benn wasn’t allowed to continue his spell because he was asked to do a job and was unable to deliver.
The final one-day match takes place at Port of Spain, Trinidad, on Thursday with West Indies facing a series white wash.
