Bolt out of June 12 New York Diamond League meet
Triple Olympic champion and world record holder, Usain Bolt has withdrawn from the June 12 New York Diamond League meet with a tendon injury.
Organisers were notified on Monday afternoon by Bolt’s management team that the sprinter is suffering from an inflammation of his tendon.
A release from Bolt’s management team said the Jamaican developed stiffness in his Achilles tendon last week and after careful consultation with Dr Hans Müller-Wohlfahrt in Munich, he was advised to take a two to three week break as a precautionary measure to avoid risking further damage.
Bolt had been expected to face American Tyson Gay in a 100 metres showdown between the world's two fastest men.
The meet, scheduled for the Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, will be the fifth stop on the inaugural 14-meet, international Diamond League circuit.
