Seven Jamaicans in action at Division Championships

Seven Jamaicans will be in action on today’s opening day of the final collegiate track and field meet in the United States, the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division One Championships.



The four-day meet will be held at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, beginning at 4 p.m. Jamaica time.



The first Jamaican on track will be former Edwin Allen High half-miler, Kayann Thompson, who will compete for Louisiana State University in the semi-final round of the women’s 800 metres at 7.45 p.m. Jamaica time.



Former St Jago sprinter, Dwight Mullings, of Mississippi State University, will compete in the 400-metre semi-finals at 8 p.m.



In the women’s 400 metres at 8.15 p.m., last year’s Champs Class One winner, Jodyann Muir, formerly of Wolmer’s, and former Queen’s quarter miler, Crystal Wilson are the Jamaican representatives.



Both athletes will run for Mississippi State.



Louisiana State’s Samantha Henry, formerly of Queen’s, and the University of Connecticut’s Trisha Ann Hawthorne will be in action in the 100 metres semi-final at 9 p.m.



The other Jamaican down to compete is former Edwin Allen 400 hurdler, Andrea Sutherland.
