Trinidad and Tobago\'s opposition has refused to sit on the investigative team, which is to probe the use of money managed by the country’s urban development company.

Opposition Chief, Ramesh Maharaj, said such a committee would have no power to conduct the kind of investigation required.

He is calling for a full commission of enquiry with constitutional power to summon witnesses and documents and to conduct forensic investigations into the operations of the urban development company.

Local press reports suggest that the Trinidadian government plans to use independent senators to make up the committee numbers in the face of the opposition boycott.
