The Prime Minister of Belize Dean Barrow was among hundreds of guests who were forced to evacuate a Miami Beach hotel after a body and toxic fumes were detected on the premises on Saturday night.
Prime Minister Barrow, who was the guest of honour at a dinner, was preparing to address the gathering when he was handed a note by his wife, indicating that they were required to evacuate the building.
They were then whisked away unhurt by secret service agents.
Miami Beach police are investigating the shooting death that took place on the eleventh floor of the hotel, several floors above the ballroom where the prime minister was attending the event.
