Officials Venezuela say six people have died and another 15 have been injured during a riot in one of the country’s prison.

The violence reportedly broke out at Los Teques prison, near the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, yesterday, during visiting hours for relatives.

Violence is common in Venezuela's prisons, where rival groups sometimes fight for control of cellblocks or the sale of drugs, however it’s not known what sparked the riot.

Prison official Consuelo Serrada says that eight of the injured inmates at Los Teques were taken to hospital, while the rest were treated at the jail.
