UK cuts the number of outside jobseekers

The British government has decided to cut the number of persons from outside the European Union who can take up jobs in the United Kingdom.

Home Secretary Theresa May has announced that the number of skilled workers allowed in the UK is to be cut by 1,300.

The cap on the migration of these persons will move down to 24,100 by April next year.

The British Home Secretary says this is a temporary measure aimed at reducing the flow of immigrants while consultations will be carried out with stakeholders to determine a permanent cap.

However, the limit will only apply to highly skilled migrants and skilled workers in certain categories of jobs.

It does not apply to workers from EU countries, who are free to take jobs in the UK.

Migration and employment rates are major political issues in Britain.
