Calls mount for sacking of deputy commissioner

A week after he was unanimously rejected by the Trinidad and Tobago Parliament for the post of Commissioner of Police, Canadian Neal Parker is defending his right to continue as a senior officer in the Antigua and Barbuda police force.

The Police Welfare Association in Antigua cited divided loyalties as the reason that it wants Parker, the current Deputy Commissioner, to be sacked.

However, the Canadian is insisting that there is no question about where his loyalty lies.

PWA officials met this week with Commissioner Thomas Bennett to point out that Parker had applied to be Trinidad and Tobago’s top cop while continuing as second in command in the police force in Antigua.

Commissioner Bennett has reportedly agreed to meet again with the association on July 7 to further discuss the matter.
