Region to launch data collection system
A senior official of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said the region is a step closer towards the launch of a national data collection system within the Caribbean Community.
UNICEF’s Resident Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Tom Olsen, said the database would contribute to dissemination of the software system, Devinfo 0.5, as a single data collection platform for the region.
Mr. Olsen said the lack of proper resources to manage data and statistics has also been a major challenge for regional governments.
He said the data would be collected from various sectors including trade, economics, finance, health, tourism and children’s issues.
A number of Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, St. Lucia and the Dominican Republic have reportedly already developed systems, which will enable the storage and dissemination of national statistical data.
