PM fate to be decided

The immediate future of St. Lucian Prime Minister Stephenson King could be decided today.

A meeting of elected parliamentarians and top brass of the ruling United Workers Party was held on Monday night, to discuss the crisis triggered by decision of two MPs to withdraw their support for the Prime Minister.

A further meeting is scheduled for today when two ministers who were absent are due to attend.

The position of Mr. King and three non-elected members of his cabinet appear to be in jeopardy, according to a BBC Caribbean reporter in Castries.

The protesting MPs want Mr. King to fire Economic Affairs and Planning Minister, Senator Ausbert D\'Auvergne.

The government, which is less than two years old, has faced mounting calls for fresh general elections.
