Butt leads Pakistan into second test

Salman Butt will captain Pakistan for the first time tomorrow in the second test against Australia at Headingley in England.

On July 13, Shahid Afridi returned to the test arena for the first time in four years to captain Pakistan in the first Test at Lords. But before Australia won the game by 150 runs, Afridi had resigned and announced his immediate retirement from test cricket.

Butt will lead the side until the end of Pakistan's tour of England before a permanent decision will be made.

Butt inherits a squad with obvious potential and arguably the most exhilarating pace bowling attack in international cricket.

Pakistan's weakness lies with a batting lineup short on test experience and patience. Butt was the only Pakistan batsmen to score a 50 in either innings of the first Test.

Pakistan are likely to make just one change, with Shoaib Malik replacing Afridi, although legspinner Danish Kaneria could make way for Saeed Ajmal.
