Reigning champion, Dexter Lee of Jamaica, will be aiming to create history at the 13th World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada today.

Lee, who strolled through his opening round of the 100 metres on yesterday’s second day, will be hoping to become the first male athlete to win back-to-back 100-metre title at the championships.

The first semifinal of the event is scheduled for 5.00pm this afternoon Jamaica time, while the final is slated for 7.45pm in the evening.

Lee won Heat Two of the 100 metres in 10.38 seconds to qualify for the semifinals.

His main challenge for the gold medal will be the fast-rising Frenchman, Jimmy Vicaut, who won his heat in 10.53 seconds.

Junior Central and Caribbean Games 100-metre champion, Bernado Brady, will also represent Jamaica in the semifinals, after he clocked a personal-best 10.52 seconds for third in his heat.

The semifinals and final of the girls’ 100 metres are also scheduled for today’s third day.

Deandre Whitehorne was third in Heat One in 11.82 seconds, while Junior CAC Under 20 champion Siedatha Palmer qualified as one of the fastest losers.

Both Jamaican girls also advanced to the semi-finals.

Jamaica’s middle distance runner, Natoya Goule, will also attempt to qualify for the medal round of her event.

She will compete in Semifinal Two of the girls’ 800 metres at 8.30am this morning Jamaica time after a second place finish in the first heat in two minutes, 08.11 seconds.
