Jamaicans qualified for medal round in 200 metres
Two Jamaicans have qualified for the medal round of the 200 metres on today’s fourth day of track and field at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.
Audria Segree booked her place after clocking 23.79 seconds for third place in the second semi-final of the women’s 200 metres.
Cydonie Mothersill of the Cayman Islands won that heat in a meet record 22.69 seconds.
Darlenis Obregon of Colombia won the first semi-final in 23.39 seconds.
The final is scheduled to begin at 6.40 p.m. this evening.
The other Jamaican qualifier in the medal round is Rasheed Dwyer. He clocked 20.77 for second place in semi-final three of the men’s 200 metres won by Trinidadian Sorillo Rondel in 20.76 seconds.
Jamaica Steve Slowly failed to advance after a fourth place finish in semi-final 4 in 21.08. The final is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. this evening.
Jamaica have 10 other qualifiers in medal rounds today.
Nickiesha Wilson, Nikita Tracey, Roxroy Cato and Leford Green have qualified for the 400-metre hurdles finals.
Wilson and Tracey will compete in the women’s 400-metre hurdles final, while Cato and Green will represent the country in the men’s 400-metre hurdles final.
O’Dayne Richards and Jason Morgan will represent Jamaica in the men’s discus final this afternoon at 4 p.m., Kimberly Williams will contest the women’s triple jump final at 5 p.m. and Tammilee Kerr and Kateema Riettie the women’s javelin final at 6 p.m.
Jamaica have so far won 11 medals in track and field including two gold, four silver and five bronze.
In the remaining sports, Jamaica have tallied 14 medals including five gold, three silver and six bronze.
In Hockey, Jamaica senior female team missed the medal round after conceding a last minute goal to go down 1-0 to the Dominican Republic in their final Group ‘B’ game yesterday.
A draw would have put Jamaica into the medal round.
Jamaica will next be in action tomorrow when positions 5 to 8 will be up for grabs.
Meanwhile, the Men’s team face a must-win situation against Mexico today in their last Group ‘B’ game to keep its medal hopes alive.
