Tendulkar scores double century

Sachin Tendulkar scored his fifth double-century in test cricket as India replying to hosts Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 642 for four declared reached 669 for nine at stumps on today’s fourth day of the second Test in Colombo.



Tendulkar, who was 108 overnight with India on 382 for four, scored 203 from 347 balls as the match is now heading to a high-scoring draw.



He shared 256 runs for the fifth wicket with Suresh Raina, who scored a debut century. Raina, who resumed his morning on 66, went on to make 120.



India were vulnerably placed on 241 for 4 yesterday needing 200 more runs to avoid the follow-on when Tendulkar and Raina paired together.



Ajantha Mendis returned best bowling figures 4 four 157 for Sri Lanka while Tillakaratne Dilshan had 3 for 50.



Sri Lanka leads the three-match series 1-0.
