Jamaica secures first victory
Jamaica secured their first victory of the rain-battered TCL Group West Indies Under-19 One Day Tournament in St Lucia by crushing Guyana by seven wickets at Gros-Islet playing field today to keep their slim chance of retaining the title alive.
As a result of the victory, Jamaica have moved to six points heading into tomorrow final round of games.
Jamaica are four points behind leaders Trinidad and Tobago, who are strongly poised for the title after their top-of-the-table clash with Windward Islands at Beauchamp Playing field was abandoned without a ball bowled because of rain.
The Jamaicans set a victory target of 106 cruised to 108 for three off 27.2 overs.
An impaired outfield, resulting from heavy rain, delayed the scheduled start by almost two hours and forced the match to be reduced to 45 overs per side.
Earlier, Coi Thompson picked up five for 14 as Guyana were bowled out for 105 off 30.2 overs.
Over at Dennery Playing Field, Barbados sent in by Leeward Islands were bowled out for 159 off 19.1 overs in their rain-affected game.
The match was reduced to 20 overs per side after play started late because of a damp outfield.
