Asafa Powell could return before season ends

Former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell could compete towards the end of the 2010 track and field season if he overcomes a back injury.

Powell’s agent Paul Doyle says the Jamaican sprinter may be able to run later in the season if his condition improves.

Doyle made the comment at the penultimate Samsung Diamond League meeting in Zurich, Switzerland yesterday.

Powell’s camp had already confirmed he would miss his next two assignments in Berlin and Brussels due to injuries.

Powell suffered back and hamstring injuries after competing in Paris and was also forced to pull out of a highly anticipated 100-metre clash with Tyson Gay and compatriot Usain Bolt at the DN Galan Diamond League Meet Stockholm, Sweden on August 6.

Gay defeated Bolt at the DN Galan meet to hand the double world record holder his first 100-metre loss in more than two years. Bolt was forced to end his season prematurely also due to discomfort in his back.
