Five Jamaicans to compete in Diamond League meet
Fast-rising sprinter Yohan Blake and Nesta Carter are among five Jamaican athletes listed on the provisional entry list for the final meet of the Samsung Diamond League Series, the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme meet in Belgium on Friday.
Blake and Carter are down to contest the men’s 100 metres along with two other Jamaicans, Dexter Lee, who recently in Canada became the first male athlete to win back-to-back 100-metre titles at the World Junior Championships in Athletics, and Mario Forsythe.
The race also includes American Tyson Gay, who followed up his Stockholm victory over Usain Bolt by clocking the fastest 100 metres time this season at the London Diamond League on August 13.
Gay clocked 9.78 seconds to beat Blake, who ran a personal-best 9 .89 seconds.
Blake will enter the race following his second place finish to American Wallace Spearmon in the men’s 200 metres at the penultimate Diamond League meet in Zurich, Switzerland on August 19.
Carter is the third fastest Jamaican with a 9.86 clocking he achieved to win in Lucerne, Switzerland on August 8.
The other Jamaican down to compete is Korene Hinds, who runs in the women’s 3,000-metre steeplechase.
